Structured Family Caregiving (SFC)
Get paid to care for your family member at home
Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) is a Georgia Medicaid program that lets a qualified family member be paid to care for an elderly or disabled family member at home — so the care your family is already giving finally gets compensated.
To qualify, the family member receiving care needs at least five hours of care a day, and the caregiver and family member live in the same home. It's one of the simplest ways for Georgia families to get paid for the love and care they already provide.

Who qualifies
- The family member receiving care has Georgia Medicaid and needs a nursing-home level of care (at least 5 hours of care per day).
- The caregiver and the family member live in the same home.
- The caregiver does not have other employment while serving as the paid caregiver.
- The caregiver must be related to the family member by blood, marriage, or adoption — for example, adult children, parents, siblings, in-laws, or adopted relatives. Friends do not qualify.
- The caregiver must be able to pass a Georgia GCHEXS background check (the state's caregiver background-check system).
- Spouses and legal guardians are not eligible to be the paid caregiver under Georgia rules — but other programs may still help.
